    I know it goes with the territory as a tourist but I don't think you deserved to be fleeced like that. Especially in a respectable town like Darwin (or so I thought). I don't know how someone like her sleeps at night.

    Didn't think I'd get ripped off in Darwin, Australia (Smith St Mall) but the money changer here was a total scammer. Basically, the dodgey woman behind the counter tried to take advantage of the confusion since I had multiple currencies to exchange. Fortunately for me, I had the figures all worked out on my phone before I approached with my cash.

    I knew with the larger Asian denominations, she was skimming another 5% on top of the transaction fee as the rounding seemed too perfect. The receipt they issue doesn't even show the amount you should be receiving so that should be clue number one. Secondly, this woman was blatantly trying to pull the wool over my eyes by miscounting the notes I hand over to her - she didn't even bother to repeat the amount of cash she counted. She pretended it was an honest mistake but I had my ATM receipt with me to show how much cash I had on me so she didn't try to push it.
